One of the most common mistakes in DIY wallpapering is relying on the corners of a room to be level. In reality, very few houses, whether historic or modern, possess perfectly square walls or 90-degree corners. When working with bespoke murals, every panel is unique and must be hung in a specific sequence. Unlike a standard repeating pattern, a mural creates a single cohesive image. This requires extreme care during the trimming process. Using trade-grade snap-off blades is essential; a blade must be changed almost every other cut to ensure a crisp edge. A dull blade can snag the paper, especially when it is damp with adhesive, leading to frayed edges that ruin the seamless look.

The Role of Specialised Tools

• Laser Levels: As demonstrated in our recent mural installation, these are vital for maintaining vertical accuracy over long distances.
• Seam Rollers: These tools help to flatten the joints between panels without bruising the paper or forcing out too much adhesive.
• Felt Squeegees: Used for delicate papers to remove air bubbles without scratching the decorative surface.
• Plumb Bobs: A traditional but effective backup to ensure gravity is on our side.

Maintaining the Finish

Expertly installed wallpaper should last for many years. To maintain the finish, we recommend avoiding harsh chemical cleaners. For most premium papers, a light dusting or a gentle wipe with a barely damp microfibre cloth is sufficient to keep the colours vibrant and the surface clean.
